Critical facilities—headends, hubs, data or other telecom centers—are the heart of a cable telecommunications operation. They house the "guts" of any broadband operation, and much like the brain, they act as the "nerve center" for their entire network. And if something goes amiss, the end-result can be a nuisance at best and catastrophic at worst. Critical facilities house QAMs, switches, routers, optical transmitters and servers—all of which are complex pieces of equipment—and all at risk—with the right environmental or system faults—of "total fail."
If any service originated or transmitted from one of these locations fails, tens to hundreds of thousands of customers can be affected and a significant amount of revenue lost. An unacceptable circumstance for any operator.
